1. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

19th April 1943: The Warsaw Gehetto Uprising
The uprising broke out in response to the German deportations of the Jewish residents to Treblinka extermination camp. Deportations had been ongoing for some time but it was only by the end of 1942 that word began to reach the the residents that deportees were being systematically exterminated. By that time at least 254,000 had already been murdered. The first armed resistance began in January but the revolt proper began on April 19 when German troops were opposed trying enter the ghetto.

SS-Brigadeführer Jürgen Stroop, ordered to clear the ghetto, responded by burning it down block-by-block. This took nearly a month to achieve. About 13,000 Jews were killed, many in the fires, and the survivors (counted by the Germans at 56,885) were all deported. The Germans lost less than 20 men killed and 95 wounded. Stroop then demolished what remained of the ghetto, including the Great Synagogue of Warsaw.

Stroop went on to commit many other atrocities, including the summary executions of American airmen shot down and captured in the area under Stroop's control 1944-1945.

Stroop was eventually hanged in Warsaw on 6th March 1952

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
An easy-going week beckons with clients finishing courses and my deciding not to pick up new ones while Son is away for a week. This will allow various other activities to occur, one of which involves Missus, whose healthy libido will be able to express itself with untypical freedom. Me, I can "take-it-or-leave-it", but it will be healthy for Missus, marriage and personal wellbeing.

I will also have time for business promotional work and exploring the full potential of my Kindle Fire HD6 - I have already been learning new tips, tricks and workarounds, unfortunately at the expense of sleep! I have stayed up too late working on it but now have the time to catch up in an afternoon or two.

After (reluctantly!) excluding biscuits and excessive sucrose from my weekdays, replacing it with bananas, I fear a little fructose intolerance may be going on! Motions are somewhat looser and highly gassy. I'm going to ignore it and carry on anyway! I believe my bowel is still healthier, as is metabolism, but I frequently crave a Jacob's Club - or ten! I fear I have a biscuit compulsion that will require lifelong management. So be it! I'm up for the challenge!

9. ZEN WISDOM
Ideal love is fostered only between two sincere, mature and independent people. Real love is not two people clinging to each other; it can only be fostered between two strong people secure in their individuality.
