3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
The Weekend Job is going to prove grueling in the weeks to come, due to a change of policy that has gone from one extreme of wasting manpower on pointless jobs to the other of not having enough! Whilst annoying and hard work, it is not overly stressful, but has taken my cynical contempt of corporate management to new heights.

On the other hand, it's a good testing ground for mental and physical discipline, and I'm getting some good fat-burning exercise hiking there along a reasonably scenic route. This will stand me in good stead in the other departments of this character's experience.

Son, bless him, has asked for quality time. Being a fickle teenager, it seems to have slipped his mind that we previously had a regular quality time slot that he himself abandoned. I chose not to remind him of this. Whether this is a one-off whim or becomes a regular thing remains to be seen.

On the way home last night I couldn't help thinking of the power this character could wield over other minds if only I didn't have to spend so much energy managing my own. Its tendency to overreact, overheat and wander into dark traumatic memories and fantasies is hard work to rein in. Never mind. I am getting better at it all the time. Now I am reconciled to the fact that I require ultra-high levels of concentration to achieve my aims and need to spend considerable mental energy all the time on it, with acceptance comes more power, as I am not wasting it on what isn't or can't be.

9. ZEN WISDOM
The greatest tragedy in life is not to die, it is to live as if dead, to let the life within us wither. Toward what goal or achievement are we striving in life? This is the important question to ask ourselves.
