3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Well, I've started - a dietary regime I wouldn't dream of recommending to my clients or anyone else for that matter - one meal a day, supplemented by multivitamin, omega-3 and Chromium tablets. And I intend to do it for LIFE

Because I've never heard of anyone else doing it, and it's contrary to a lot of nutritional advice, I've been reluctant to accept what I know to be true - this is right for ME. I know because I've done it before twice. The first time in the early 1990's was spectacularly successful - I dropped to 10st 2 and a 30" waist. The second time around 2008 I didn't persevere for as long but still dropped to 12 stone.

There are additional factors required for this to work - my circumstances have to be benign, and secondly - and the reason weight kept coming back - LOW SUCROSE. Flooding my system with simple sugar is a significant factor in the lifelong anger management issues I've had and makes me highly aggressive when there's a sugar crash - and hungry!

I have had no nutrition guru to help me figure all this out - I've had to learn it myself through a lifetime of trial-and-error! On the other hand, having taken so long, I know absolutely what I'm doing - with myself anyway!

Prior to this turning point I have already drastically reduced sucrose intake. This has given me the ability to manage "the feeling". This feeling I have called "hungry" but I no longer believe that's what it really is. In reality it's the point where the glucose derived directly from the last meal runs out and I am starting to burn glycogen, the body's carbohydrate store. This is the store you're actually supposed to live off, and meals top it up.

I have been living on the glucose obtained directly from food and any left over is stored as fat. When on high sucrose, this "feeling" is particularly intense and makes me aggressive. But I have it right now and I don't feel aggressive at all! Now I can live with it, I've already won before I've even started!

The feeling is hard to describe. There's a feeling of vulnerability that on a sugar crash makes me highly aggressive, but right now is reasonably mild. There's a lightness in my limbs and a feeling of being mildly sedated. Oddly there's no sensation at all coming from my stomach. This feeling as it stands right now is not incapacitating me, so I'm quite excited that a lifelong issue is going to be conquered at last!

However, it's only Day One. Outside of this blog, which is my "hiding in plain sight" inner-self, I will not announce I'm losing weight until next week, just in case I'm deluding myself! If the rest of this week continues as today, I'll be confident by Monday to go truly public - and make some publicity out of it!

9. ZEN WISDOM
Courage and compassion are two sides of the same coin. Compassion without courage is not genuine. You may have a compassionate thought or impulse, but if you don’t do or say anything, it’s not real compassion.
