3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION

An important fact I have learned is that I am NOT my thoughts or my moods - these are internal experiences. This is very comforting to know because mine are distinctly unhelpful on many occasions! A long quest has taken place to prevent thoughts and moods from ruining my life experience.

The path of Enlightenment then is not so much a choice for me as an essential in order to prevent negative experience. What makes this path a struggle is that there is not a single thing you must do but MANY disciplines - at least in my case! However they all boil down to two essentials - cooling the mind down and avoiding processed sugar.

You can never relax relaxing! A continuous conscious override of an unhealthy default is required! But to count my blessings, I am at least capable of doing it - many people are completely unable to manage their minds. I have come to accept my unhealthy default as how it is - I never chose it! I also accept my responsibility to manage it to the best of my ability.
