3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Monday evening's family supper was for the first time as a three a sombre affair. It was clouded by two unrelated matters: firstly, Missus' boss at work is screwing her over, making her work longer hours for free. I cannot directly intervene and have already added to her stress by pressing her to do something about it.

I have found that you can never assume that bosses know what they're doing or will treat their workers fairly. Rights in the workplace have to be fought for and defended. Everything's in the air until her boss backs down on his own or after a week or two Missus seeks counsel at work.

The other dampener was Daughter again! Son's resentment at Missus favouritism and the obscene amount of money spent by Missus on her for Christmas rose to the surface, and with every justification! Serving to prove her ghastly narcissism, Daughter rang Missus as supper began, and put phone down abruptly on Missus when informed it was teatime.

My exasperation at Missus inability to deal firmly with these two unscrupulous individuals (Daughter and her boss) and my inability to intervene led me to avoid Missus between supper and mid-evening.

Having said my piece on both issues, it is time for my character to back off. It is not after all Missus fault that Daughter and her boss are ghastly, and her conciliatory loving motives are the very highest, and her mental health is fragile. From mid-evening I returned to being gentle and supportive.

I have learned that vague undefined threats are best left to the intuition - the logical/calculating part of my mind, without sufficient data, gets stuck in a loop and wanders into dark fantasies that never have a good outcome anyway. I have to entrust that "Higher/Deeper Self" beyond my immediate consciousness with situations I can't directly affect right now. There is no avoiding the need for faith, surrender and acceptance - these disciplines are essential to free up the mind to get on with the essential daily humdrum stuff.

My stomach medication (Omeprazole) continues to have the unexpected side-effect of a mild sedative. This is both positive in pleasantly calming me and negative in that everything feels like wading through treacle. This is to me well-worth enduring because it has completely eliminated my acid reflux problem, and I'm a little pervy in rather enjoying being sedated!
