3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
It was surprising how quick Thursday went, considering I spent the daytime almost completely on the laptop, and did not make as much progress as I would have preferred! Nevertheless, combined with quality family time, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day!

I've learned that life is a set of moments, and that each moment is to be treasured and maximised, particularly when your circumstances are joyous! At the Weekend Job, the pleasantness of the day is dependent on what seems to be pot luck - who's on duty, what customers you get and what mood they're in. My own mood is fragile and one wrong remark can plunge it into darkness all day and longer. I've learned that I can't create mood at will, but I can manage behaviour - so long as I'm not pushed too far!

The Weekend Job is an opportunity to practise my hypnotic skills - not by hypnotizing people but by evoking positive emotions. However, when it's hectic or hostile, and stamina is weakening, I go into "firefighting" mode and my chief concern is to manage my own behaviour!

In Shakespeare's day, Elizabethan theatergoers could purchase apples and pears to eat during the show. These snacks were often thrown at the actors by dissatisfied members of the audience.
