3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I am a little saddened by a rare clash with Son last night, over mine and Missus sex-life. I went to bed convinced of his utterly unreasonable attitude, but this morning I am a little more objective. We don't do it in front of him, but we are, I must admit, utterly indiscreet - it's no secret when we're at it. He took particular exception to being forced to be "trick-or-treat" door monitor while mum and dad went upstairs for a quickie (our second of the day). A sour atmosphere ensued for the remainder of the evening.

That said, a longstanding "deal" exists where we only indulge on Thursdays if he is at home, so it's not as if he has to continually hear us. The compromise we have is an uneasy one - I resent our sex life being restricted at all (though it saves money on Viagra) and he resents any kind of sexual activity while he is in the house (which is most of the time!)

It is the only bone of contention between us, but when it does flare up, it's upsetting for us both. Time will inevitably solve the problem on its own, as he will ultimately be at home less often. I am hoping that this recent rift will be healed by a few shared beers tonight.

8. TRIVIA
When Christopher Columbus landed on what he later named Hispaniola in 1492, the people greeted him with offerings, unaware that he was claiming their lands for Spain. By 1508, the Hispaniola's native Arawak/Taíno population had fallen from about 400,000 to just 60,000 due to the devastating social, political, ecological, and immunological effects of Spain’s arrival. Ten years later, less than 3,000 Arawak/Taínos remained alive on Hispaniola.

9. ZEN WISDOM
It is important to keep the promises made to friends. This is the true meaning of friendship. To become people who can do so, however, we must first learn to keep the promises we have made to ourselves.
