3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
The loud blast of a text ringtone awoke me at 04:20, and after a wee, thirst and missus snoring loudly, I was unable to get back to sleep. Shrugging shoulders, going with it and getting up, I can now feel the telltale signs of inadequate sleep - sore eyes and skin crawling.

My restlessness has probably been set off by a couple of minor incidents - an altercation - albeit minor - right at the end of the Weekend Job after an otherwise smooth shift, and Son informing me that he had mis-read his e-mails from both Manchester and Birmingham, and he had only got acknowledgements not invitations to auditions - having told everyone otherwise.

Though it's now well-managed, there isn't a "cure" for my issue - the tendency to overreact. I cannot control which neurons fire in response to which stimuli, only counteract them by firing other neurons. Consequently, my behaviour is generally reasonable but something like a storm goes on in my brain.

Time and space in a benign environment, which home now is, ultimately restores balance and grounds my focus.

Self acceptance of the physical and mental flaws of my character is a crucial discipline - after all, I did not choose to have these flaws, and I have willingly accepted the responsibility to manage them. I therefore have an internal peace that comes from knowing I'm doing my best with what I've got to work with.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you resenting things or getting on with them?
