3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
The ability to separate higher consciousness from the character I play is an odd experience I'm still getting used to. In particular, the way one relates to the other. To raise consciousness from character to "player", it is simply a case of knowing how to relax. To return to character is simply a shift to looking through the character's eyes.

To take all this to the next level of control, I need to learn how to control the character as the player without "becoming" the character. This doesn't work in the same way a man wields a tool. It turns out that you do it by "observing" the character. I have learned that the very act of observing something can change it. When I observe my character from a detached viewpoint, the character alters behaviour, and becomes less reactive and more proactive as intuition takes full control of the character.

All fine and dandy, but the challenging part is keeping the focus in this place of detached observation. I am unfortunately nowhere near this yet. It has taken me this long just to figure out how it all works, and only now do I at least know how to drive it. The next part is sheer persistence and practice to keep focus where it works best.
