3. TODAY'S SELF OBSERVATION
From my Christian era (1983 - 2009) I picked up the proverb "don't be so heavenly as to be of no earthly use" Having moved on to a nondualist philosophy, the same principle still applies. I am fully aware that what I call "me" is simply an assumed role I play, a mechanism by which the Universe contributes to the consciousness of itself. However if that's all I focused on, the universe would be giving up the opportunity to experience itself from this particular point.

I consider my life experience to be a useful and worthy addition to the consciousness of the Universe, so I am resolved to play it out to the finish. It now intersects with a reasonable number of other life experiences, and combined with the data trail it will leave behind, this makes it both worthwhile and fun to play.

When you watch a movie or play a video game, on one level, you know you are simply seeing light and hearing sound from a machine. However, to derive value from the experience, you immerse yourself in and participate in the illusion created. In the same way, I retain awareness of the energy field that everything truly is, but participate in the illusion created by my perception (maya) in order to maximise the benefit of the experience. Spreading my consciousness over both levels enables me to be enriched by the experience without becoming lost and therefore frightened by it.

  1. Nice to know about you, Gary. I have also been on the path of seeking wisdom and spirituality. Not just because of my sake, but for people who need to understand it more than me. Thank you for the article you shared. I enjoyed reading it.
