3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I've never had a problem with hedonistic self-indulgent personal pleasure, but I'm wise enough to know that anything gets dull if you do it too often. However, making other people smile never gets dull. It's a very healthy positive kind of addiction to make a difference. It's even better when to one or two people you are essential to their wellbeing. It satisfies a very primal need to be "of worth to the tribe".

It's equally true and very liberating to accept that you can't do it for everyone. As well as the loving and the recptive, there are the indifferent, the selfish and the predators. I have come to reject utterly the concept of loving your enemy. I waste no time on the indifferent and the selfish, and have no qualms at all about unleashing my Dark Side on the predators.

It has taken me until middle-age to have the confidence to assert my own ideas entirely rather than fall in behind others. I have cherrypicked the concepts from philosophies that make sense and work for me and incorporated them into my own tailor-made outlook that fits me perfectly. The result is peace of mind and the end of Cognitive Dissonance, civil war within my own mind. My personal spirituality and philosophy is also flexible and malleable, changing and evolving with continual learning and experience. I reject the concept of Universal Eternal Truth, as I believe there is none.

There is only one undeniable truth - that there is consciousness. Everything else is simply the mind's interpretation of that conscious experience, a model contructed entirely within in the mind. Once you realize that what you call "reality" is simply a construct of your own mind, you can see that my modifying you mind, you can modify your reality. You do this by the simple expedient of focus. Whatever you focus upon determines your experience, so by training your focus to latch on to helpful stuff, you can improve your experience of this temporary phenomenon we call life. Change your thought and change your life - it's as simple as that.
