On the Russian Front... At Stalingrad, the German 6th Army and Soviet 62nd Army are locked in fierce battles around Mamayev Kurgan, the Red October factory, and the Silikat factory. The Soviet Stalingrad Front is renamed Don Front under Rokossovsky while South-East Front becomes the new Stalingrad Front under Eremenko.

In the Atlantic... Brazillian ships Ozorio, Lages and Antonico sunk by U-Boats.
U-175 sinks US vessel Alcoa Mariner.

In the Aleutian Islands... US 11th Air Force aircraft attack Kiska Island and Attu Island.

In the Pacific... US submarine Trout sinks Japanese escort carrier Taiyo. US submarine Sculpin sinks Japanese seaplane carrier Nisshin. Japanese vessel Tamon Maru sunk by USN submarine Nautilus off Japan.
US Cactus Air Force fighters claim twenty-five victories while intercepting Japanese aircraft over Guadalcanal.


In Papua New Guinea... Australian battalions begin pushing towards Ioribaiwa on the Kokoda Track.

Over Burma... The RAF bombs Mandalay.

I have "defected" back to Blogspot for this blog which is now
much-improved since my last visit, and unlike Wordpress seems to actually work properly. After blogging, ironing and meditation before shift 1 of the Weekend Job. Missus time in the later evening.

A low mood was somewhat lifted by quality times with Missus and Son last night, which brought my focus back to gratitude. As I settle into the normal weekend routine, we'll see what next week holds.
